SexTingles Sponsors Rider In World Naked Bike Ride

Brighton, UK, June 10 2006.

As part of the World Naked Bike Ride events taking place all round the world, the Brighton WNBR took place 10 June 2006. Rides also took place in London, York and Manchester and other places around the world the 9 and 10 June.

The ideal, sunny, hot weather helped an excellent turnout of around 160 riders fairly evenly divided between men and women of all ages including a few children and one dog in a bicycle trailer. WBNR support the themes of stopping dependancy on non renewable energy resources, and the exposure of people (especially cyclists) and the planet to the pollution and danger caused by cars.

The riders use their nakedness to draw attention to the vulnerability of human bodies. We are just a combination of our bodies and minds.

SexTingles sponsored one rider, Roger Armstrong, who was supporting the Outsiders Club (see below).

Due to the local police imposing instructions that any riders exposing their 'rude bits' (their terminology!) might be arrested, Roger covered his naughty bits with an 'elephant thong'. Other riders used many inventive ways to do the same. The resulting mix of bare or painted breasts and buttocks and imaginative ways to cover the genitals was amusing and eyecatching.

The ride started in central Brighton and with the very helpful support of the police made its way in carnival fashion down to the seafront, west to Hove stopping briefly at the Peace Statue, back through the Brighton shopping centre area down to the sea and finished, appropriately, at the Brighton naturist beach.

Along the route many onlookers, cheered their support. Some people looked somewhat surprised and a very few a little uncomfortable at the near nakedness. It would have been interesting to see what the reception might have been if riders had been allowed to be fully naked.

This very successful World Naked Bike Ride in support of anti-pollution, reduction in reliance on cars and oil and the celebration of the human body past off peacefully and was concluded in high spirits and a call to press for the next Brighton event on June 9 2007 to be a truly naked one.
